Parenting in the Lord Andre Leyva Honoring your parents is a command from God (Note: the key is not to view scripture as simply
bound to traditional top-down cultures. The word of God is living and active
and can be rightly applied to parenting in modern culture enhancing the
strengths of modern culture while remedying the weaknesses of modern culture.) Honor your father and mother. This is the first of God's Ten Commandments that ends with a promise. And this is the promise: that if you honor your father and mother, yours will be a long life, full of blessing. Eph 6:2-3 (Living) Only a fool despises his father's advice; a wise son considers each suggestion. Prov 15:5 (Living) A son who mistreats his father or mother is a public disgrace. Prov 19:26 (Living) A rebellious son is a calamity to his father. Prov 19:13 (Living) Discipline your son in his early years while there is hope. If you don't, you will ruin his life. Prov 19:18 (Living) My son, watch your step before the Lord and the king, and don't associate with radicals. For you will go down with them to sudden disaster, and who knows where it all will end? Prov 24:21 (Living) My son, how I will rejoice if you become a man of
common sense. Yes, my heart will thrill to your thoughtful, wise words. My son, how happy I will be if you turn out to be
sensible! It will be a public honor to me. But, my son, be warned: there is no end of opinions ready to be expressed. Studying them can go on forever and become very exhausting! Here is my final conclusion: fear God and obey his commandments, for this is the entire duty of man. Eccl 12:12-13 (Living)
