Arts Guild
Artists in Mother of God Community seek to express the beauty of God and his creation through sculpture and painting, particularly icons. Works are conceived and executed in an atmosphere of personal and communal study and prayer. Artists wishing to have fellowship with other Christian artists, or develop and deepen their vision of Christian art, are invited to avail themselves of Community resources including classes, consultations with scholars, lectures and meetings with other Christian artists.
An icon painting workshop is taught by Irina Beliakova, a Russian master iconographer. Examples of her students' work are found in the Art Gallery. The workshop meets twice monthly on Monday mornings. Spaces are limited. Fees are on a pay-as-you-go basis. For more information contact Diane Levy. Sarah Hempel Irani teaches sculpture and drawing at her studio in Frederick. For more details go to Hempel Studios.
The Mother of God Arts Guild is open to all interested parties, artist or not. Group gatherings are always on a Thursday at 7pm, and last until about 9pm. We will go over the first few pages of John Paul II's Letter to Artists, and conclude with a slide show of Christian Art under the theme "Culture of Life."
For examples of sculptures, drawings and paintings done by Community artists, view our Art Gallery and Art for Purchase.
